We all know that olive oil is wonderful for eating, but what about it in our bath and beauty products? Well, at the Plum Island Soap Company, olive oil is king. If a product recipe calls for oil, olive is what goes in. We love olive oil here, rich in color, viscosity and of course it has wonderful moisturizing and skin care properties. Olive Oil has demonstrated to be the most compatible with human skin in our findings more so than many of the oils and fats of various other origins. From early Egyptians to Greeks and Romans, olive oil was used to prepare medicines and cosmetics and is used today for its emollient calming action and important curative and smoothing properties. We know at this point we should give you the scientific structure of why it’s so good for the skin, but quite honestly, it almost put us to sleep! Instead we’re coming straight from the heart we open the drum of olive oil and everyone on staff just sighs it’s a pleasure to work with this stuff. Amazing. Besides you can Google the boring stuff yourself. When we here at the Plum Island Soap Company began to search for the perfect oil for the products, we found through experimentation and feedback from our test markets (we only test on humans!) that olive oil was the most beneficial to skin of all types and across the board got rave reviews.
Emollients (like our Baby Balm, Body, Foot and Hand Butters) containing olive oil are useful for dry skin and has shown to be extremely helpful in treating psoriasis, excema and dermatitus conditions; they slow the loss of water through the skin layers. The thicker the creme or lotion, the more effective it is likely to be. Have you seen our Body Butters? We think they are heavenly. Our philosophy from the beginning was to create a natural product line with simple yet effective ingredients and we know that we have stayed true to that concept. This philosophy has kept our job easy in a lot of ways, if an ingredient is not naturally derived, we simply don’t use it, and our most cherished ingredient is the sweet scented, dark green, amazingly thick, wonderful olive oil we use. That’s why we use Olive Oil. |
